Jody Watley & SRL unveil the cover art by Los Angeles based artist Martin Lagirdam for the forthcoming new single “The Passion” mixed by legendary Italian remix producer Alex Di Cio expected to arrive around July 20, 2018 to various digital outlets.
“The artwork is inspired by the sacred heart. As the core of our being, with the theme of the song being a passion for living and life coming alive through the music and our connections – it felt right to have a vibrant and colorful art piece like this to represent the vibe of the song as the music, love and passion descends upon the city. The flames represent setting your soul on fire with the music and the things that make you feel alive. This cover art is something a bit more unexpected and outside the box for us this time – bold and unexpected. I became a fan of Martin’s work after following him on Instagram after he created a custom t-shirt for me. The beauty of his work in particular many themes that reflected the heart really spoke to me for this single…as well is it could be a cool statement tattoo and iconic emblem for the group usually associated with rock bands. The single has some standout guitar work by former Prince & NPG member Levi Seacer. I’ve connected with some incredible talent through social media and Martin is one. The logo’s were created by my longtime art director and collaborator the U.K. based Ray Easmon.” – Jody Watley
For what I lack in controversy or gossip headline worthiness (thankfully), it’s more than enough for me to just be about quality music, class and artistry – still. Thank you to all who appreciate, support and understand “It’s In The Music!”
PRESS BLAST: January 9, 2014: On the heels of her funky hit single, “Nightlife” becoming a Top 5 Urban and Top 10 Commercial Pop hit in the UK and becoming her 19th Top 20 Hot Dance Club Play on Billboard since her solo debut in 1987; dance music legend and Grammy-winning pop icon, Jody Watley continues to master her career. Jody’s individuality and style in Dance and R&B music is reflected in her newly released video to her classic dance anthem. The “Queen of Cool” has, again, revived the good feel of music with the Dave Doyle video remix to “Nightlife” which paints a picture that evokes an uplifting emotion, with the spirit of the “nightlife” of people loving to dance, to feel the groove, and simply have fun.
“Nightlife” was shot on location at the hottest night spot in the country, Giorgio’s (named in a recent article by The NY Times as “The City of Dancing Angels”) on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles.
Filmed by Steve Willis with edit and motion graphics by Ray Easmon of the UK and Produced by Ray Easmon and Jody Watley; “Nightlife” features a cameo by Andy Warhol legend Joe Dallesandro, some of Los Angeles’ top freestyle dancers including The Waackers, choreographer Roseo McCoy (Britney Spears, Usher, etc), and famed Giorgio’s owner, Bryan Rabin recently profiled in the New York Times, and The Hollywood Reporter.
Saturday night at Giorgio’s was another memorable night among those in the groove with Adam Bravin on the decks with the perfect venue and host Bryan Rabin in the house were Mick Jagger who proclaimed when we were introduced “I know you Jody Watley!” with that distinct voice and accent – with a quick embrace and kiss to my cheek. I had to ask my longtime friend and administrative assistant Wallace Butts – after the encounter, “what did he say? Did that really happen?” We laughed about it. Mick Jagger, total rock star legend and someone I’ve been a fan of since I was a little girl. Because I’m never jaded and always with the enthusiasm of a child it meant so much, I’m an artist – but I’m also a fan of the people I like as well. This night at Giorgio’s was definitely one for the books. Mick Jagger’s enthusiasm toward me was staggering in the midst of the chaos surrounding he and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs as Bryan Rabin and my friend Christos led the way to the fray. Diddy, the mogul and hip-hop star had his entourage including his lovely girlfriend Cassie. He fabulously handed out glasses of champagne, quick toast – as we all continued dancing! Nightlife – indeed!
