2021 brought many challenges with an ongoing pandemic and an entertainment business that had been put on hold for over a year. The National Museum of African American Music appointed me, as their first membership ambassador. I was featured on their outdoor digital jumbotron for several months.
Slowly live concerts returned and I was excited to have the opportunity to do a handful of concerts and other events such as the honor of performing the National Anthem twice MLB and NFL; once for the historic Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium and then Los Angeles Chargers at SoFi Stadium.
I was inspired to drop “Renderings” along with standout singles “Whenever” and “Not A Single Day Goes By” all remixed by Alex Di Ciò. UK Soul radio was on board immediately with strong support propelling the single into the Top 5. Stateside there were quite a few television appearances including the Emmy winning Tamron Hall Show, each interview was joyful and always with an inspirational takeaway for viewers.

Jody Watley pays tribute to fellow music icon – friend and colleague George Michael in music tribute filmed in December 2016 days after his untimely passing.
The heartfelt rendition of “Waiting For That Day” has remained a periodic inclusion in Watley’s concerts. “George and I met while recording “Do They Know It’s Christmas”, he would later appear on my solo debut on our duet “Learn To Say No.” On top of being one of my favorite male vocalists and songwriters – I want people to know he was a very kind human being. His music legacy will always remain. “Waiting For That Day” is not one of his big commercial hits but it’s one that has always been a favorite of mine. The statement making “Listen Without Prejudice” album was a departure of sorts from his previous releases, but he showed a determination to not be constrained by narrow boxes and artistic restraints often found in commercial pop music. That mindset immediately resonated with me.” – Jody Watley
Merry Christmas! The best of the day and holiday season to all. It’s a joyful time for many while a sad melancholy time for others. Wherever you are with it and as with life in general, find your own way and make it work for you – most of all don’t let the season overwhelm and stress, in particular as the new variant in the pandemic is spreading. It’s all about knowing what’s important and those are not material things. I love the excitement in small kids and making wishes come true the best you can, however as adults we know or should that the greatest gifts don’t come with a price tag.
The greatest gift for me this year is having my daughter Lauren and son Arie home for the holidays, after being apart nearly two years due to the pandemic. They are lights in my life.
Whatever it is that lights up your heart – may it be illuminated ten fold.

Jody Watley’s “Renderings” The Alex Di Ciò Remixes grooves its way into the UK Soul Chart with a #4 position on chart ending December 19, 2021. With standout soulful house uptempo cuts “Whenever” “Not A Single Day Goes By” “A Beautiful Life” receiving heavy play and currently also at #1 on the Sweet Rhythms Chart. It’s a nice way to close out 2021. The reason for music is not charts and awards – however it’s very nice to see the continued support.
Though a short set, Jody Watley made every minute count in a fiery, funky and fierce performance at the Winter White Concert Party at Texas CU Theatre. Rarely a fixture on more classic R&B bills – Watley proved more than capable as one of music’s most versatile artists with a catalog to match.

Thanks so much to all of the UK Soul radio DJ’s – especially those on Solar Radio where “Renderings” is in heavy rotation and tops their Sweet Rhythms Chart at Number 1! “Renderings’ also made into the overall Top 20 at 17 on the UK Soul Chart.
America is focused on trap and hip-hop commercially however, there’s a big world out there and the UK radio has always embraced veteran artists who continue to release quality music along with respect for legacy artists as well.
