“At times our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lit the flame within us..keeping the passion burning bright.”
It all went down in downtown Los Angeles yesterday for Nate, Rosero and myself filming the video for the forthcoming new single “O.R.I.G.in.A.L.”
The last time I filmed a video in downtown Los Angeles was for ‘Don’t You Want Me’ many moons ago.
The day was beautiful and the action progressed nicely in the fashion district. Lensed by Q Burdette for Rosero Inc. the team behind my recent solo concept video for ‘Dancer.’
The song was inspired by a year of trolls and haters who have tried to derail our every effort, marginalize our efforts, discourage and attempts at poaching any interest on bookings with promoters..they troll and bash us from Youtube to every social media account we have as well-bound and determined to trash my name with slander, character assassination and attack or as well attempt to diminish my contributions as a solo artist down to my signature hoop earrings. They’ve been the first commenters on most interviews I’ve done over the past in in introducing the group. We are originals – not replacements and not trying to pretend we are anything other than ourselves – creating our own foundation and mark one effort at a time in whatever we do.
The experience has made us stronger as a group and gave us material for the song with an edgy sparse beat. Online bullies and trolls will always be around and don’t stop the progress – so I guess you can say we are turning our lemons into lemonade. That’s what you have to do in life..like I wrote awhile ago “The Beat Don’t Stop.”

Despite the naysayers, detractors and the constant efforts to undermine – we are pushing forward. In fact, this song was inspired by the online trolls, haters and those who have been throwing shade at us — as we proceed forward.
The views are up on our Facebook, interesting to see the different facets of social media and how the various platforms engage. We just posted to Youtube, check it out..after our business meeting at Rosero’s. Less than 25 seconds for the time challenged.
Being a real group and artist means you don’t just show up to get a check, the work happens all the time if you want to make things unique, distinct.. meeting, brainstorming, exchanging ideas, listening to each other, being able to keep it real and honest..before ever taking the stage, going in studio, making a video. We don’t just get together to pick up a check, we are constantly in communication. Some want the shine without the grind – not us. We understand that building something special takes time, we’re enjoying the process despite any challenges, roadblocks and those trying to undermine our efforts.

Tickets go on sale tomorrow April 15 for Harrah’s Atlantic City concert May 12. Come out for a night of music spanning disco, soul, pop, dance, R&B and more: Ticketmaster – it’s always a party with Jody Watley and Shalamar Reloaded.
Saturday night in Hollywood, Bryan Rabin and Giorgio’s bid a chic adieu to 70’s disco and ushered in Chapter 2: The New Sound 80’s. I rolled through with Shalamar Reloaded Nate Smith, Rosero McCoy. We put in work on the dance-floor – it was packed so a bit difficult to get really loose. A great time was had by all. Bryan really knows how to do it big.
It was nice to catch up a bit with actor Alan Cumming. He and I first met back in 2005 in Malaysia for the Tsunami Relief Concert “Force of Nature”, and then had a blast in Vegas some years later when I was there performing at Vegas Pride. He told me he still has his “I Heart Jody Watley” T-shirt which made me happy!

Read about the very fashionable night of dance and style:
Avitone created in 1995 with the mantra of fueling quality music is another element of my career as a business woman and artist that I’m very proud of. Never waiting for anyone to give me anything or any easy opportunity – it’s always about the work, the journey and doing things with style and a level of quality to be proud of. You have to believe in yourself and if there’s no door – create one. Being an independent has it’s challenges but should never a deterrent.
Pre-Order the forthcoming new Shalamar Reloaded single at Amazon, other digital outlets are coming worldwide. We are excited to pushing forward..this single was inspired by haters..trolls..and the naysayers and shade throwers who have nothing better to do than go around trying to bring others down – as we proceed, we recommend it. Originals, us 3.
Pre-sale tickets are available April 12, on sale April 15 for the upcoming concert May 12 at Harrah’s Resort and Casino Atlantic City. Tickets: Ticketmaster
