Make sure to subscribe to the Official Jody Watley Youtube Channel for new video releases, behind the scenes, interviews and positive Wattage inspirations for Jody Watley as well as Jody Watley & SRL fans. Each week I’m going to make it a goal to publish something new. As outlets like Facebook and Instagram rely more and more on algorithms as to what you may see in your feed, i.e. the most popular or trending subjects – it’s increasingly important to find ways to connect with my niche base.
Competing with gossip sites and artists with millions of followers is futile, as well as what these sites choosing what fans see from music, design, art, business pages etc. can be very frustrating.
As an independent I’ll continue to use my platforms as best as I can and hope those interested will discover, keep up and share. Just click ‘Subscribe’: Jody Watley Youtube
A concept video takes an idea and focuses on that, in this instance I wanted it to be about the dancers and dance and the freedom of movement interspersed with choreography – it’s not a traditional video which is why I’m not performing the song..and why it’s not the full version of the song, rather a dub mix which suits the dance and concept.
As well – I wanted to do a raw video without fancy lighting, nothing slick and overly stylized; but in a dance studio just like the kids were taking a class or having a party for a sense of authenticity.
If you don’t know by now, I’m an artist that likes to flip the script; not in a controversial way but rather always in a way that reflects where I’m at and not being chained by expectation or past history…always forward.
Watch now! For the dancer in all of us!! Here
Feel that electricity! Nate Allen Smith, Rosero McCoy and I had a blast at our Shalamar Reloaded debut single release event for “SlowDance” at Bryan Rabin and Adam XII Present: Giorgio’s A Modern Discotheque on the Sunset Strip, July 28, 2015. We worked everyone into an appropriate disco soul funk frenzy in the midst of the glitz, glamour.
Check out this review of the video and single for “Nightlife” on music blog Dance Buzz. The single became the 19th Jody Watley Top 20 Billboard Hot Dance Play Single, and achieved Top 10 chart status in the UK on Music Week’s Commercial Pop (#6) and Urban Charts (#5). Here
Check out this new house infused mashup “Nightlife” vs Ben Pearce’s “What I Might Do” courtesy of Ray Easmon.
Also on the mashup front, Outkast’s Big Boi gives the Shalamar classic hit “A Night To Remember” a sexy twirl.
