“Not everyone fits in with the mainstream. Some are born to be different. They are misfits, individualists, outsiders, and eccentrics that let their freak flags fly. Yet they have found a way to thrive on their own terms, transcending barriers of categorical concepts and popular expectations.” Read the article: Wax Poetics

For my #TBT #ThrowbackThursday #Classic as well as #FashionFriday – 1 page of a 16 page layout for Saks Fifth Avenue Catalog from ’96. The photo’s and style from these sessions are all very timeless – which always appeals to me. Working with legendary photographer Skrebneski made me nervous, but he put me at ease making it  a memorable and fun experience.

Jody Watley Nightlife Vaults Into The Top Ten. UK

Choosing to release “Nightlife”  featuring Gerald “Take That To The Bank” Brown, another Shalamar original to the UK first has turned out to be a great idea for my company Avitone. Check out this chart list from industry magazine Music Week – and you’ll find one multiple decades long artist, songwriter producer amongst them – Jody Watley! 70’s, 80,s, 90′,s 00’s, 10’s. Notably, I’m also the only independent self released artist of the list – no major label support.

Nightlife“also moves to #21 Pop on Music Week and #3 Breakout single on Billboard in this weeks chart. Charts are always published a week after labels get the information.

Filming new scenes for the video on November 30. Extra fab just in time for the holiday season and a glamorous way to round out 2013! It’s In The Music!

Jody Watley In Chengdu.

My trip to Chengdu was awesome, another blessing of an experience for all of us. To perform as a part of the Night of Fortune GRAMMY All-stars Concert at Chengdu Stadium in front of 40,000 fans left me speechless – until the Panda Tour which was the icing on the cake. I’m thankful to God for continuing to bless me to do what I love, on my own terms and to live a balanced life beyond ‘entertainment.’

The children’s chorus sang a beautiful and moving song – brought me to tears – this was evening rehearsal.

There was a great tribute to Michael Jackson with rare footage from the GRAMMY archives before the children came out for a dance tribute medley.
