I’m absolutely thrilled to make this announcement.

Honoree Letter Black Music Honors:

On behalf of the Honoree selection committee for the Black Music Honors television special, we are pleased to notify you that we would like to honor Jody Watley with the prestigious R&B/Soul award on August 18, 2017 at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville, Tennessee otherwise known as Music City! The R&B/Soul award is presented to African American icons in the music industry that have made significant contributions in the shaping, building, and longevity of American Music.

Black Music Honors is a 2-hour musical honors special produced by Central City Productions, Inc. under the leadership of Don Jackson, with productions that include “Stellar Gospel Music Awards”, “Black College Quiz”, “Stellar Tribute to the Holidays”, and more. Black Music Honors was created to highlight and celebrate the accomplishments of those African Americans that have played a major role in shaping the Black music industry. By honoring Jody Watley, we will be able to show appreciation for the exceptional music she has created to enrich the world.

Industry greats that were honored at the inaugural taping include Dionne Warwick, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Staxx Records, Clarence Avant, and Big Daddy Kane. This 2-hour special will air in national broadcast syndication during the entire month of September 2017. We are a firm believer in teaching and preserving the foundation that has been laid for the future generation.

Ticket proceeds from this event will be donated to The National Museum of African American Music which was founded to recognize the many contributions African-American artists have made in shaping the soundtrack of American music. You can visit their website at http://nmaam.org.

Congratulations to the other 2017 honorees:  Donnie McClurkin, Slick Rick, Oleta Adams, and R&B Group Guy. The show will be hosted by Rickey Smiley.

Here’s a snippet of one of my performances with the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra “Best Hits 80’s Meets Symphony..” singing one of my Top Ten hit singles “Everything.”

I wore a red suit and mock turtle neck from Theory as one who usually doesn’t wear the color and funked it up with street-style attitude with new red shades from a new line I stumbled across, nude Louboutin pumps and my signature jumbo hoops with added sparkle. Red in this case represents my passion for living and life..I’d had a custom tux made but it wasn’t ready in time..

Jody Watley. A Night To Remember.

Being a part of the one time and unprecedented musical event ‘Loving The Silent Tears’ was one of the best and most rewarding experiences of my career. The process of meeting and getting to know the cast, our director Vincent Paterson (a dream come true I might add), choreographer Bonnie Story, designers, costumers, ensemble dancers – was amazing and so many new friendships were formed. Every element of this process was first class – top shelf all around. I feel so fortunate and blessed to have been a  part of this global melting pot of artists and cast-mates.

The production opened with aerialists who flew through The Shrine captivating the audience as the orchestra led by our musical director Doug Katsaros playing a beautiful prelude and then we were off to a journey around the world woven into a powerful narrative and story line. I’ll be posting more photo’s and a short video of the journey I’ve enjoyed with the musical the past few weeks leading up to the October 27 for the premiere. Supreme Master TV shared  the event globally and on the Loving The Silents Tears Musical website via live stream.  Here are a few pics from last night; it truly was was a night and experience to remember!

About to step onto the red carpet like none I’ve experienced; lined with people in cultural outfits.
