Thanks to one of my fans Rob Spiegel who saw this fabulous poster of me at Essence Festival 2014 and shared with me on Facebook. It was a terrific experience to perform at the festival in 2013.

It’s no secret I love Japan, and have since my first visit back in 1987. I’ve been going there consistently to perform and get excited each time. Billboard Live is a state of the art venue with an awesome staff which is always a bonus for any artist – you know it’s going to be right. The fans bring so much love, enthusiasm and warmth just as if they’re seeing me for the first time – there are always new fans there as well. It’s In The Music!

On Wednesday October 16, 2013 I did a day of press at a few outlets as well as meet and greets – lots of good vibes and enthusiasm which is always nice. I’m also in New York to celebrate and spend time with my son who turns 21 today. Words can’t express my love my for son and daughter – music is great but they are the core, meaning and balance of my life as “Mom.”

A must watch!! The panda was calm, smelled of honey and sticky fur. I wasn’t nervous and had no idea I’d get to actually hold a baby panda who was more concerned with his bamboo – like a child with candy! That being said, looking at the claws, it never left my mind that I was holding a bear, a wild animal – just as with people, I gave my loving positive vibes. What an incredible experience!
My trip to Chengdu was awesome, another blessing of an experience for all of us. To perform as a part of the Night of Fortune GRAMMY All-stars Concert at Chengdu Stadium in front of 40,000 fans left me speechless – until the Panda Tour which was the icing on the cake. I’m thankful to God for continuing to bless me to do what I love, on my own terms and to live a balanced life beyond ‘entertainment.’

The children’s chorus sang a beautiful and moving song – brought me to tears – this was evening rehearsal.

There was a great tribute to Michael Jackson with rare footage from the GRAMMY archives before the children came out for a dance tribute medley.

One of the most incredible experiences of my life was getting to hold a baby Panda while in Chengdu, not everyone who goes on the Panda Tour is allowed into the nursery. It was like holding a chubby toddler, with sticky fur that smelled of honey, eating bamboo like pieces of candy!
