Going away back in my career – this an early Shalamar classic performed with original lead Gerald Brown.
A great time we had on 8.19. 21 at Morongo!! Shout out to my friend Gerald Brown for being a fabulous special guest as always sounding great and bringing the good energy and vibes. Though we only worked together for barely a year in Shalamar back in 1978 our friendship and bond has remained strong for 43 years -since I was a teen!
Thank you to my amazing rhythm section – Kerry, Keith, Roland and Hubie keeping it funky – and a fantastic loving enthusiastic full house! Big shout out to my Wattage Dance Crew longtime member the awesome and talented John ‘Havic’ Gregory, Joseph Szekula, Kayla Henry, Tevyn Cole, Jasmine Boyes.

One of the things I enjoy about performing live is the ability to be spontaneous in what I say or do in the midst of it all. It leads to priceless and memorable moments as captured here with “Skin Deep” one of my favorite songs in my catalog.

Wishing everyone the best of the week. Here are some updates in case you missed them, I’m doing a limited round of live concerts having returned to the stage at the end of June and the beginning of July at Charles Krug Winery and Blue Note Hawaii respectively. Being in a bubble the past year and a half takes a bit of adjustment for me to jump in full steam, so as always I continue to be selective with my travel and concert experiences. It’s important we do what’s best for our own well being at all times, or as often as possible. I trust that everyone continues to be safe and responsible even if vaccinated as I am.
August 7 – Chicago Northhalsted Market Days Festival 2 PM.

As the first Ambassador for Nashville’s National Museum of African American Music, recently voted 1 of the Top 10 Museums in the USA I encourage everyone to become a member (there are many virtual members experiences and discounts) and of course if you can get there in person it’s a spectacular and educational experience for music of all ages and genres. To be one of the featured images on the digital billboard is a honor. Looking forward to working with the museum to curate ‘The Jody Watley Experience’ exhibition for the fall as well.
My online store continues to add limited quantities of specialty products including my signature line of luxury soy candles – Discover Jody Watley Shop.
