As a group we’ve had a couple of metamorphoses since we formed in 2015. Name change, concept changes and among them deciding not wanting to be another version of something associated so deeply with the past and with such accompanying negative people and baggage.
We can be inspired by the past but no one here is trying to relive it, me, Nate or Rosero. I realized some are still going to try to deceive and mislead people, disrespect me because of their own bitterness and jealousy of me..try to rewrite the past as if I can be erased or have my face paired with someone else’s name, ignore the trademark registration etc . ..my energy is not devoted to trying to make others do the right thing and they can wear themselves out trying to damage my reputation behind the scenes. My point was made with a certain trio actually benefited from my handling of business – they got shook up and woke up – and as well have tried to emulate a lot of what SRL and I have done it’s quite obvious based on what they were doing prior to my registration and what has come after it.
My decision was made last year and after my open letter – I don’t need the negative energy and once it was apparent some were also attempting to piggyback my efforts with the previous incarnation of the mark Shalamar Reloaded it became comical in some ways. That said, those Shalamar songs are still songs I originated and I can sing them whenever I choose …luckily I also have my own hits, ongoing new music and other music gems to sing in my show for a complete music journey.
As SRL., it’s refreshing to become more of who we want to be as our own music entity and brand continuing to learn and grow as has always been the case with me anyway -time does that – brings clarity if your mind is open to it. Our other incarnation was also very successful with TV, concerts and music. Moving on..all of our social media pages reflect the new era and that quietly began last year once we started working on “Bridges” we want our solo debut to have a fresh slate..just as my solo career did despite the past.
With that said, there are still many talent buyers who still want to see me do the Shalamar classics I originated and from time to time, we’re open to do that in special cases. The sound is there, because I’m a part of it and Nate and Rosero make it fresh and fun.
This will be the only show of ours this summer where we revert to our original debut show from 2015 doing a range of those hits, the promoter for this Danvers David Oriola concert really wanted this to happen .. the second half of the concert is Jody Watley hits and new music. Some of the other shows this summer where there is an SRL slot, we will go back to more focus on our new music with one classic added usually ‘A Night to Remember.’
No matter what I do – there will always be passion, soul, style and heart…and while always celebrating the past and the rich history — I’ll always keep moving forward!
