Jody Watley Honored with ‘Jody Watley Day’ in Houston for Contributions to Black Music

Dr. Jody Watley was honored with “Jody Watley Day” in Houston on June 30th. On the same day, she received several honors from the office of several state Houston representatives including the Black Music Honor from  Dr. Verna Caddie, President of Leaders Esteem Christian Bible University and her colleague Dr. Shonda Love backstage at concert in Dallas.

Watley said of the multiple proclamations after finishing her concert, “To be recognized for my influence, longevity and vital contributions to the music business is incredibly special to me. These are moments of recognition to never take for granted. I wasn’t expecting this today – what a nice surprise, so much gratitude!”

Jody Watley who is celebrating over 4 decades as a Grammy winning solo artist, was in town for the OldSchool FunkFest along with other legends of funk and soul Morris Day and The Time, Con Funk Shun, ZAPP and Midnight Star.
