Jody Watley. Shalamar Reloaded Friday Flashback and Update.

A year ago today Nate Allen Smith, Rosero McCoy and I were out in the Mojave Desert, Death Valley filming our first music video for SlowDance. It was a very monumental moment in our new journey. I’ve put my money where my heart is and invested in us because I believe in what we’re doing. You can’t just talk the talk – you have to walk the walk. Investing in myself isn’t new since becoming independent with Avitone in 1995 which has entailed paying for recording, photography, marketing, staff and so on. Extending the business to include Shalamar Reloaded is a big picture look as artist and entrepreneur. Certainly, it’s not the common road at this juncture in my music and professional life but one of which I’m totally enjoying and believing it will pay off it other ways doing something that hasn’t really been done like this. After the release of this single and video, it was picked up for license by Spectra Music Group. We’re currently about to do a digital distribution deal with Universal Japan for Asia and something exciting just came up with regard to a possible deal for the UK. We are also in the midst of writing and recording the forthcoming “Bridges” with a new video for “The Mood” in the pipeline.

Some people want to stay stuck in what was, could have been..I’m not one of them. It’s awesome to create,  make new goals and dreams. conquer obstacles, go out on a limb however one looks at it – now – today.

SlowDance is an in concert favorite by the way! It’s so cool to some of the couples accept our invitation and get up, put their phones down and come close.

We’d like to thank our growing new fan base and the media outlets who are showing us love by supporting what we are doing.

Jody Watley and Shalamar Reloaded Highlight 2015

This journey with Nate Smith and Rosero began prompted by trying to correct misuse and false ads, and undoubtedly turned into something else fueled by God and the universe. As the year progressed, and as it goes with the journey of life we cleared hurdles, were dealt many challenges to overcome and an initial flood of naysayers — but I remained steadfast ad did Nate and Rosero who continued to have my back. In that – we really became a group, not fueled by cashing checks but with a similar passion for music, dance and having a good time. Our goals and objectives changed as the year went along. Here’s to the unexpected, new goals, new challenges to be overcome, new inspirations and 2016. Togetherness and teamwork.

The remix is produced by Jamie Von De / Bill Coleman and Peace Bisquit

Scenes from Honda Center, Anaheim – great night..I loved dancing with all of the kids and dancers which was new for me. Rosero McCoy did an outstanding job putting it together. The girls all rocked classic Jody Watley jumbo hoops with style as a nod to my early solo career and the Real Love video.

A special thank you to Omar Nelson in his new position as coordinator at Radio One’s the nationally syndicated John Monds Show ‘Love and R&B.’

Nate, Rosero and I were delighted to be guests on air to talk about our new single “SlowDance” our concerts and how we all came together. I also answered a fun relationship question to cap it off.

It isn’t often that artists get to go on air and spend time – and we were with veteran on air personality John Monds for over an hour, as he spun classic and contemporary R&B. I remember John from his days in Los Angeles on 92.3 The Beat.

This was a much appreciated opportunity.

SHALAMAR ® reloaded with Nate Allen Smith, Jody Watley, Rosero McCoy. 2015

I really appreciate the writeup on Indamixworldwide – always good when a writer goes in depth and obviously does some homework. They also said something that makes sense for those who act as if there was only one version of the group during it’s run from 1977-1990..no matter how popular one was – it was always changing and more of a brand and trademark than an ongoing group. This is after all – a business. I wonder to a degree if the underlying resentment a hand full of people have of my legally registering the trademark or any resistance from fans who long for the past – has to do with the fact that I am a woman doing business ..if I were a man I’d be called smart and shrewd. Hmm..
