Jody Watley Photographs and Musings From Yoshi’s May 2014

There’s nothing like a Jody Watley concert / party – it’s an experience and exchange of positivity, love and good vibes mixed with tons of attitude, spontaneity, heart, soul, laughs, tears..music is life and paradise. Because I never work from a ‘script’ in what I say..in the moment  of being moved by the audience and love..I did forget to dedicate my performance of “When A Man Loves A Woman” to Dr. Maya Angelou. My love of poetry and spoken word was very much influenced by her dating back to when I was in junior high, very much impacted by Angelou and Nikki Giovanni.

We’ve already been asked back for New Years Eve..stay tuned!

They hadn't seen me since the 80's! I welcomed them with open arms - and told them it's OK, all that matters is you're here tonight!

Tommy has such a wonderful spirit, and so generous. He always gives me a gift – this time a gorgeous crystal vase and flowers, which came with a thoughtful card and letter. The vase is home my ‘Sanctuary’ on the piano.

With one of my youngest and dearest fans Iona. Her Mom Yuko is loving and wonderful and flew in with Iona..we first met in Japan several years ago..so I'm getting to watch Iona grow up! She made me a keychain, and Mom brought cupcakes, and gifted me with one of my favorite things - a handheld fan.

..the fabulous night ended with Chicken and Waffles via an invitation from the owner Derrick  and longtime friend of Rosero McCoy (choreographer/dancer)  who hooked Wallace Butts from Avid Music Inc,  John ‘Havic’ Gregory and Christina Grady and I up! I slept like a baby needless to say!

Jody Watley. Yoshi’s Oakland Days Away.

My band, dancers, crew and I are all looking forward to the concert this week. It’s a “Paradise” pre-release (we’ll have new Paradise merchandise and Nightlife vinyl among other items), celebrating the success of my single “Nightlife” which was Top 5 in the UK and Top 20 here in the U.S. Dance. The meet and greet (our chance to say hello face to face) and what will be a wonderful evening of music and love. The VIP Meet and Greet was sold out, but I’ve asked that they extend for a few more. A night to dress up or dress down, but you know I’m all about being fabulous. Take that outfit out from the back of your closet that you’ve been ‘waiting’ for the right occasion to wear – May 29, it’s your time, it will be good for your soul! What’s left of tickets: HERE

Jody Watley New LIve Concert Video Post.

If you haven’t seen Jody Watley “Live”, you are missing a treat. This is a glimpse of the poignant improvisational  “When A Man Loves A Woman” the controversial spoken word, topical single from the 1991 album “Affairs of The Heart.”

Jody Watley will make a rare concert appearance May 29, 2014 at Yoshi’s Oakland, CA. Don’t Miss It.

Morning radio interview speaking with Alan Barnett on KSJS “The Vibe Session” which airs on Mondays from 10 to 2 PM.  The single “Nightlife” Soulpersona Classic Soul Mix was played at the conclusion.  I really appreciate independent college radio stations and on air personalities like this who are able to have playlists of handpicked music.

Coming soon: Yoshi’s May 29 in Oakland. Be there! Tickets: Here

In addition to the concert there will also be a a VIP pre-show meet and greet. Come say hello, sing, celebrate the success of ‘Nightlife’, the forthcoming “Paradise”, party with us, perhaps meet your new love or just mix it up, put on something nice and get out of the house. First Day of Spring. Saturday Night At Yoshi’s.

jodywatley_happyspringOn this first day of spring, I’ve already been dealing with major allergies. I’m hoping my puffy eyes won’t be as pronounced by this Saturday night’s shows at Yoshi’s Oakland. If not, I have some fabulous shades to wear in true rock star fashion.

The set list is hit packed, including some Shalamar gems I’ve rarely performed mixed in with my own classic hits, sprinkled with some underground, iced with some house, and a new music preview from my 10th album scheduled for release this summer. It promises to be an eclectic night to remember of soul, funk and glam just like a chameleon should do.
