NEW Interview:

Jody Watley Talks New Project, Bogus TV-One Unsung Episode, First To Collaborate, More

“Jody Watley is an iconic figure in the entertainment industry, who continues to shine in music. Watley’s independent-minded and free-spirited personality has earned her the respect from so many people in fashion, style, music, and video production. The Grammy-award winning vocalist broke many musical barriers, especially being the first R&B/Pop singer to collaborate with a rapper on the song, “Friends,” featuring Eric B & Rakim. Known for her funky style in music and dance, Watley pays homage to her roots on her latest EP, Paradise.”….  Read more at : Singersroom

Jody Watley. DANCER Musings 1. Paradise Update.

JodyWatley_Paradise_EP_CD_CoverArt

“DANCER”  featuring Luminodisco from the current release “PARADISE” has remained a stand out favorite according to my hardcore fans. I was inspired to write it for the spirit of the dancer that lives in all of us, it’s about confidence. “Clock this confidence – this ‘aint no coincidence – baby I’ve got style..I can be ruler of the world, queen of technology — doctor, lawyer, 9 to 5’er..don’t matter I was born to shine..” Shine on no matter what you do and what your job is in life. Get it : Here at iTunes (also available at other digital outlets), available worldwide.

Jody Watley featuring SHALAMAR. Right In The Socket

Filmed at one of the sold out concerts in Japan at Billboard Live. It’s such a blessing to have such a loyal fan base in Japan and to sell out concerts and perform to packed houses off and on since the debut of my solo career. This show featured more dancing that I’ve done in recent years, coming out of a down-tempo ambient electro journey on my last few projects (Saturday Night Experience Vol. 1, Midnight Lounge, The Makeover).

A great time was had by all, and it was a fun way to reintroduce songs from SHALAMAR fitting perfectly with the disco soul theme of PARADISE.

This is not a reunion endeavor with the classic lineup (1979-1983). If that happens it will be a different vibe of course. This is a fresh take with new young talent, among others renowned dancer/choreographer Rosero McCoy (Usher, Beyonce, Britney, Justin Timberlake, America’s next Best Dance Crew, Disney’s Shake it Up and The Sing Off among others). The first half of the new show is SHALAMAR, and then it turns to Jody Watley hits and new music. This is a party!

Paradise Makes The Hot 16 on Soulbounce

JodyWatley_Paradise_EP_CD_CoverArt

What a delight it was to find out PARADISE made the Hot 16 List on Soulbounce amongst an eclectic list of young and emerging talent – that is quite fabulous for a vet like me. To remain fresh and true to myself always keeps my soul rooted in my work. I always hope my efforts and collaborations resonate with audiences large, small and diverse as well as the young without pandering and the young and heart. It’s in the music!

The music also made an appearance twice on the Dave Higdon’s Favorites of 2014, including ‘DANCER’ in the Top 3: Poptastic Confessions

Jody Watley Live Snapshots From Japan December 2014.

The Japan Tour was a great success. Of the many times I’ve performed a lot of the fans said this was their favorite show and all were surprised there was so much dancing between the SHALAMAR ™ set and my own solo set. It’s in the music!
